Meet Some Women Adventurers
To celebrate Women on International Women’s Day, we interviewed a couple women adventurers.
Outdoor adventure knows no bounds, yet statistics often show a gender gap in outdoor participation. According to the Canadian Tourism Commission, only 33% of outdoor enthusiasts are women. However, this statistic doesn't define the incredible experiences and journeys awaiting women in the wilderness. Today, we're shining a spotlight on three remarkable women who are breaking barriers and inspiring others to embrace the beauty of Northern Manitoba.
As we celebrate the achievements of women in outdoor adventure, let us also recognize the untapped potential that lies within each and every one of us. Whether you're a seasoned outdoor enthusiast or a novice explorer, Northern Manitoba offers a playground of endless possibilities waiting to be discovered. So grab your gear, gather your friends, and embark on the journey of a lifetime. The wilderness awaits – and the adventure begins now.

As she continues to traverse the rugged landscapes and pristine lakeshores of Northern Manitoba, Tara's passion for outdoor adventure only grows stronger, inspiring others to embrace the beauty of nature and embark on their own journeys of discovery.
Here is the Interview we had with her. We hope it brings you some inspiration!
Q: What is your favorite outdoor adventure activity?
A: My favorite outdoor adventure activities are hiking and fishing.
Q: What first brought you to The Pas, OCN & the RM of Kelsey?
A: My first trip up to The Pas was in the summer of 2020 for a camping week at Clearwater with a friend. I absolutely fell in love with the area and Northern, MB, and have made several trips back since.
Q: Where do you like to explore in our area the most?
A: My favorite spot to explore is The Caves at Clearwater Provincial Park. I have explored them in a few different seasons, and every time I go, I'm in awe of the features. The ice formations along Clearwater Lake were so awesome on my last trip up in February. Rocky lake shoreline has some gorgeous boulders as well.
Q: Is there an area or activity on your to-do list for this year?
A: There are so many lakes I would love to come up and fish. I have my heart set on catching my first lake trout in the near future!
Q: Is there anything you would like to see more of for adventures in the area?
A: I know there is so much more The Pas/OCN has to offer, and I look forward to spending more time in your beautiful area and discovering all the hidden gems.

Meet Linda Michelle
Our conversation with local adventurer, Linda showcases the deep appreciation for the wilderness and the boundless opportunities for outdoor adventure in The Pas, OCN, and the RM of Kelsey. As she continues to explore and cherish the beauty of her surroundings, she serves as an inspiration for others to embrace the wonders of nature and embark on their own adventures in the great outdoors.
Q: Where are you from?
A: I am from Cranberry Portage, MB. I moved to The Pas at 9 years of age and have been here ever since. I love the North and everything it has to offer.
Q: What is your favorite outdoor activity?
A: My absolute favorite outdoor activity has to be fishing. Fishing is a means of filling my cup and a skill that I can teach my children and grandchildren. I enjoy being outdoors and on the water. It brings me peace and satisfaction when I am able to share my catch with those I love. Fish is also an excellent dietary source. There is no such thing as a bad day of fishing; it's a win-win even if you don't catch.
Q: What first brought you to the area?
A: I moved here when I was a young girl with my family.
Q: How long have you been adventuring in our area?
A: My adventures started as a child with my family. We spent a lot of time camping and fishing. I think that's where my love for the outdoors began. My mother has been an active adventurer in the North for many years. I admire and respect her drive to have lived her best life out of the land. It truly is the best lesson that she has taught me.
Q: Where do you like to explore in our area the most?
A: I love to explore anywhere where there is water or bush. Fishing is my go-to, but I also love to hunt. There are so many opportunities to do both. We are truly blessed to have such a beautiful backyard.
Q: Is there an area or activity on your to-do list for this year?
A: I would love to spend the night on a lake in my portable fishing tent. It has been a goal of mine for a while, and I am determined to fulfill that this season. My to-do list is simple ... hand me my fishing rod and point in any direction where there is water... I'm going to fish it!
Q: Is there anything you would like to see more of for adventures in the area?
A: I think we have a plethora of activities in our area. One needs to simply seek them out. We have many talented community members skilled in a variety of things. I would encourage everyone to look for those opportunities that will enable them to be outdoors more. Mother nature is the medicine we all need in our lives.
